Today on Marine Science Minute with Florida Sea Grant: Clean Beaches

The first week of July is Clean Beaches Week. Removing trash from the beach is always important, especially during this busiest beach week of the year.

Remember to dispose of trash in secure bins and leave no trace when you visit the beach. Reduce plastic trash by avoiding single-use plastic all together and opt for reusable items.

Clean Beaches Week also celebrates a healthy beach lifestyle by eating a healthy diet of sustainably caught local seafood and getting exercise by walking or playing on the beach. Just remember, you cannot have a healthy beach lifestyle without a healthy beach!

You can keep our ocean plastic-free by visiting tinyurl.com/PlasticAware to pledge to reduce your reliance on single use plastics.

For information about this and other coastal topics, contact your county extension office or visit Florida Sea Grant at flseagrant.org.
