About
Katie Mastenbrook is a Marine Extension Agent I for UF/IFAS Extension Pinellas County. Living in Pinellas County for the past 10 years has allowed Katie to have a deeper understanding of the county’s marine and coastal habitats, wildlife, and resources. Katie’s previous professional experience includes 17 years of experiential education facilitation, direction, and facility management through environmental non-profits and state agencies. She has helped foster learning and stewardship opportunities about the marine environment for patrons of all ages throughout Florida. Katie holds a B.S. in Marine Science and Minor in Environmental Science from Coastal Carolina University. She also holds her USCG Master Captains license and has spent a lot of time on the water connecting individuals to what makes the marine environment so special.
Pinellas County Extension Programming
Pinellas County is a 280-square-mile peninsula in Florida’s west-central coast, bordered by Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. It is the second smallest county in Florida by land area, but the most densely populated. From tip to tip, the county is 38 miles long and 15 miles wide at its broadest point. Pinellas County has 588 miles of coastline including 35 miles of sandy beaches on 11 barrier islands.Â
Katie’s major programs focus on coastal resiliency, environmental literacy, and water quality. Producing educational content on living shorelines, coastal wildlife, youth education and harmful algal blooms.
