Episode 32- Boat Sewage
/
Today on Marine Science Minute with Florida Sea Grant: Sewage!Â
Let’s keep sewage out of our waterways, and not just because of the ‘yuck’ factor. Â
- Raw or poorly treated sewage can spread diseases which can make you sick. Â
- When sewage breaks down in the environment, it uses up oxygen in the water which makes it difficult for fish and other aquatic life to survive. Â
- Also, excess nutrients from sewage can contribute to harmful algae blooms.Â
If you’re a boater, dispose of boat sewage using a pumpout. To find a public pumpout you can download the Pumpout Nav app on Google Play or in the app store. Â

*The Clean Boating program was funded through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection through a grant from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
