About
Brooke Robinson is the Coral Protection and Restoration Grant Coordinator for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Originally from Virginia, Brooke developed a great interest in the marine environment from an early age through frequent family vacations to the East Coast. Brooke’s previous professional experience includes a financial background ranging from working in the banking industry to processing payroll for local county schools. Her interest in the marine environment drew her to Florida to obtain her masters degree at Nova Southeastern University in Marine Environmental Science. Shortly after moving to Florida she joined the Coral Protection and Restoration Program. Brooke is working towards finishing her masters degree in addition to her work with the CPR Program to tackle threats facing Florida’s Coral Reef through grant funding and management. Her hobbies include hanging out with her dog, going to the beach, reading, and music.
The Coral Protection and Restoration Program (CPR) was established to support the holistic management of Florida’s Coral Reef. Increasingly, the future of Florida’s Coral Reef is being threatened by disease, pollution, poor water quality, warming ocean temperatures, ocean acidification and many other threats. Many coral reefs globally, including Florida’s, have declined precipitously in the past several decades. The CPR program is addressing these threats by guiding national coral reef policy through participation in the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force, providing leadership for coral reef initiatives in the state and by effectively administering state funding for Florida’s Coral Reef priorities.
*The Coral Protection & Restoration Grant Coordinator position is funded through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
