Biscayne Bay Commission Coordinator

About

Hampton Hotard is the Biscayne Bay Commission Coordinator for the Florida Sea Grant. He has multiple years of experience working in Biscayne Bay, an academic background in environmental science and policy, and multifaceted experience analyzing biological and habitat diversity within the Bay. Hampton previously interned for Field School and the Shark Research and Conservation Program (SRC) at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School where he participated in shark research in Florida and Biscayne Bay. Originally from the state of Georgia, Hampton worked with the staff of the University of Georgia (UGA) to study and analyze the state’s geology and taphonomy of shark teeth. He also volunteered with a local nature center by creating informational videos to educate the public on shark science and ocean conservation. Most recently as an intern with Field School, Hampton analyzed Biscayne Bay as a critical habitat for a variety of shark species via BRUV surveys, drumlines, and longlines. Hampton holds a B.S. in Geology from the University of Georgia, and a M.P.S. in Marine Conservation from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science.

Hampton Hotard with shark.As the Biscayne Bay Commission Coordinator, Hampton serves as a neutral facilitator for the Biscayne Bay Commission by managing meetings and supporting the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserve. His primary role as facilitator is to provide support through outreach, data input, and scientific assistance.
