Roles and Responsibilities:
The Sea Grant/Marine Science agent will plan, develop, implement teach and evaluate comprehensive marine and natural resource educational programs that focus on marine recreation fisheries, commercial fisheries, industries including boating, marinas, fishing retail sports, sport shops and other fishing-related businesses, artificial reefs, and marine resource and water quality education for adults and youth audiences related to fishing and fishing habitats, as appropriate. The agent will conduct issue-based educational programs through workshops, conferences, publications and electronic media for various audiences that are associated with the recreational and commercial fishing sector, including fishing groups, marine and coastal resource users, marine management agencies, and public and private organizations and educational institutions.
The successful candidate will work with Sea Grant Extension faculty in counties across the panhandle of Florida and University of Florida specialists in planning and developing Extension education programs. Duties may also include regional fishery activities. The agent will develop and utilize a Sea Grant/Marine advisory committee. The agent will accept other duties as assigned or determined to be relevant to marine Extension education programs by the Bay County Extension Director and District Extension Director. Bay County is located on the Gulf of Mexico, in the heart of Florida’s Northwest. Panama City, the county seat and the principle city of Bay County, is located 98 miles southwest of Tallahassee. St. Andrews Bay surrounds much of Panama City, providing a protected harbor for facilities at the growing Port of Panama City.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree with Extension programming experience in the commercial or recreational fisheries area is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. Degrees considered include marine policy, coastal management, marine recreation, resource development, fisheries, aquaculture, marine biology, resource economics or other related disciplines. Experience working in multicultural settings and coursework/training on multicultural topics are desirable. Residence in Bay County is preferred. Bay County requires a drug test prior to employment and possession of a valid Florida driver’s license with driving record acceptable to the county driving policy and insurance program. A criminal background check will be conducted on finalists.
