Charles Sidman,
Associate Director for Research

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include (1) coordinating the biennial research proposal process, which includes the advertising and organizing of the review process and the monitoring of funded research, (2) preparing an annual plan of work and reporting accomplishments, (3) assisting in the strategic planning process for the program, and (4) assisting in the coordination of program reviews. Additional responsibilities include interaction with Florida Sea Grant finance, communications and extension personnel and with statewide campus coordinators.

Specialties

Dr. Sidman has been affiliated with Florida Sea Grant for 14 years. Since 1999 he has been a Coastal Planning Specialist within Florida Sea Grant's Boating and Waterway Management Program (BWMP). In this capacity he specialized in the application of geospatial technologies, the implementation and analysis of social surveys, and offered planning expertise in support of coastal resource management applications and waterway management. During his tenure with the BWMP, Dr. Sidman helped to establish strong collaborative ties with local, regional, state and national agencies that share Sea Grant’s commitment to providing science-based information and planning methods to sustain coastal resources. Dr. Sidman’s contributions to the Sea Grant BWMP helped it to earn a Year 2000 Sustainable Florida Leadership Award. In 2003, the BWMP earned the first Superior Outreach Programming Award for the most outstanding Sea Grant program in the US and the Caribbean region.
